Welcome to my page

Kevin L Hostbjor grew up on the west coast (best coast) and after a long stint in the United States Navy, landed in the Pacific Northwest. A graduate of the University of Washington with a Bachelor of Science in Metallurgical Engineering and City University with a Master of Science in Project Management, Kevin settled into a gratifying career as a Project Management Professional (PMP), concluding with the Army Corps of Engineers. Kevin’s self-published novel, The Musher Man, is available on Amazon. He lives in Spokane Valley, WA with his wife, Terri and whippets Loki and Brewer.

Check out my short story, The Hindenbug, in the Living Springs anthology, Through The Ages Baby Boomers Plus 2024.

It can be found here.

What inspired me to write?

The concept of both The Musher Man and The 4th Cohort came to me over a period of sea time when I was back in the Navy. I served on submarines and had lots of time to think about what I wanted to do in my later life. Our sub had an internal weekly newsletter, and I submitted a few things. One silly article helped convince the command to change an odd policy. It showed me how even an entertaining story can affect people, change their minds, influence change. So, writing became a desire, and these stories germinated. Then, my later life got in the way, college, marriage, kids, more Navy, more sea time, retirement, different work, etc. There always seemed to be a reason to be too busy to write. Then I retired again and ran out of reasons. It's funny, Covid helped me. I wrote the first draft of The Musher Man while isolated at home.
